«서울 웨더 스테이션»은 전 지구적 이상기후와 자연재해로 급변하고 있는 기후 환경을 예술적 상상력과 학제 간 협업을 통해 다각적으로 접근하고, 이를 통해 예술의 사회적 역할을 모색하는 전시입니다. 그동안 인류는 자연을 극복해야 할 대상으로만 바라봤습니다. 그러나 기후 파괴, 생물 다양성 훼손, 오염 등 가시화된 현재의 환경 위기는, 이러한 관점이 더는 유효하지 않다는 것을 명확하게 말하고 있습니다. 이번 전시는 기후 환경 문제를 다각적 시각으로 새롭게 관측하고 대안적 미래의 가능성을 예보하는 임시적인 ‘기상관측소’로서 기획되었습니다.

Seoul Weather Station is an exhibition that uses artistic imagination and interdisciplinary cooperation as part of a multifaceted approach to the rapid environmental changes that have come about through global weather phenomena and natural disasters. In the process, it examines the social role played by art. Historically, humankind has viewed nature simply as something to be conquered. But the environmental crises that have become visible these days—climate destruction, ravaged biodiversity, pollution, and so forth—send the clear message that the old perspective no longer is valid. This exhibition was conceived as a temporary “weather station” that observes issues related to our climate environment from new and varied angles, while forecasting alternative possibilities for the future.
