갤러리현대는 ‘프리즈 뉴욕 2025’에서 문경원 작가의 솔로 부스를 선보인다.

문경원은 회화, 영상, 설치 등 다양한 매체를 넘나들며 시간의 흐름을 매개로 변화하는 역사, 인간, 풍경을 다층적으로 사유하는 독창적인 작품 세계를 구축해 왔다. 그는 개인 작업은 물론, 전준호 작가와의 협업을 통해 국내외 미술계에서 활발한 활동을 이어가며 동시대 한국미술의 담론을 형성하는 데 중추적인 역할을 해왔다. 이번 갤러리현대 부스(B06)에서는 문경원 작가의 신작 회화 연작인 〈소프트 커튼(Soft Curtain)〉(2023–2025) 중 9점을 엄선하여 작가가 지속적으로 확장해 온 회화적 탐구를 집약적으로 조망한다.

문경원은 이번 솔로 프레젠테이션에서 풍경화를 하나의 ’커튼(curtain)’으로 제시한다. 커튼을 젖히면 드러나는 너머의 세계처럼, 풍경의 표면 너머에 존재하는 세계를 상상하도록 만든다. ”풍경은 볼 수 없는 것을 보이게 만드는 장치“라는 작가의 말처럼, 그의 풍경화는 재현의 차원을 넘어 시간과 기억, 재현과 지각, 사실과 허구가 얽힌 복합적인 구조를 개념적으로 직조해 낸다.

Moon Kyungwon has worked across painting, video, installation, and multimedia to explore the strata of history, humanity, and landscapes as they continue to shift with the passage of time. Alongside her acclaimed individual practice, Moon’s longstanding collaboration with Jeon Joonho has significantly contributed to shaping the discourse of Korean contemporary art both domestically and internationally. At Booth B06, Gallery Hyundai will unveil 9 works from Moon Kyungwon’s 𝘚𝘰𝘧𝘵 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 (2023–2025), a recent series of paintings that encapsulates the trajectory of her sustained inquiry on painting.

In her upcoming solo presentation, Moon Kyungwon conceptualizes landscape paintings as curtains—a veil to be drawn back, inviting viewers to envision the world beyond the surface. Describing landscapes as “a mechanism for making visible what cannot be seen,” she weaves a complex conceptual “woven” tableau of time and memory, representation and perception, reality and fiction.
