MOON Kyungwon and JEON Joonho participated in the lecture session of the 10th Seoul Digital Forum, which was held under the theme ECOllaboration – Solutions for Tomorrow from May 2nd to 3rd, 2013. They presented a lecture titled “Our Lives Take Questions from Arts.” The Seoul Digital Forum, organized by Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), is a major international conference about innovation and inspiration placed broadly in the context of the digital age. Together with various influential people from countries all over the world, MOON and JEON presented collaboration cases and works from NEWS FROM NOWHERE.
Our Lives Take Questions from Arts 16.30-16.50, May 3
NEWS FROM NOWHERE, a collaborative project by two artists on the rise, MOON Kyungwon and JEON Joonho, departs from revealing reflections on the social functions and roles of arts in this age. Bringing together experts from various disciplines including artists, designers and architects, the ambitious project provides us with a unique opportunity to question the purposes of arts, and canvass our future with a wider array of perceptual lenses stemming from the fields of education, politics, culture and religion. NEWS FROM NOWHERE is a refreshing compilation of questions on the world around us employing arts as a medium. Will the current systems be valid in the future? What are the core values that buttress human life? Will arts still be alive and well? What will we be eating and wearing? Will we still be touched by the setting sun? Our collaboration is not to put forward interesting, definitive pictures of our future society. Neither does it try to paint a utopia or a dystopia. Rather, the answers to these questions are a series of discourses, arguments and reflections designed to stay in our lives.

제 10회 초협력-내일을 위한 솔루션 이란 주제 아래 개최된 서울 디지털 포럼(2013. 5.2 ~ 5.3)에서 문경원. 전준호는 ‘ 예술은 우리 삶에 던지는 질문이다’라는 주제로 포럼의 강연 세션에 참여했다. SBS가 주최하는 서울디지털포럼은 디지털 시대의 흐름을 읽어내고 혁신을 이뤄낼 영감을 공유하며 미래의 비전을 제시하기 위해 마련된 비영리 목적의 국제 포럼이다. 세계 각국에서 초청된 다양한 연사들과 함께 그동안 진행된 뉴스프롬 노웨어 협업의 사례와 작업에 대한 발표를 가졌다.
‘예술은 우리 삶에 던지는 질문이다’
문경원, 전준호의 공동 프로젝트 NEWS FROM NOWHERE(미지에서 온 소식)은 현재 예술의 사회적 기능과 역할을 조명하는 것으로부터 출발한다. 예술가와 디자이너, 건축가 등 각계의 전문가들이 모여 예술의 지향점을 짚어보고, 예술을 넘어 교육, 정치, 문화, 종교 등의 다양한 분야에 걸쳐 사회 전반을 성찰하며 다가올 미래의 모습을 그린다. NEWS FROM NOWHERE은 예술을 통해 인간의 삶을 둘러싼 세계에 대해 던지는 질문들을 담고 있다. 현재의 시스템은 미래에도 유효할까, 인간의 삶을 지탱하는 가치는 무엇인가, 예술은 여전히 살아 있을까, 우리는 무엇을 먹고 무엇을 입을까, 노을은 여전히 예쁜가...우리의 목적은 미래 사회를 흥미롭게 그려보는 것이 아니다. 또는 하나의 유토피아, 혹은 디스토피아를 제시하려는 것도 아니다. 미래와 관련된 이 질문들에 대한 답은, 현실을 둘러싼 담론 혹은 일련의 주장이자 성찰이다.
