Moon Kyungwon and Jeon Joonho have recently embarked on the production of their newest short-film MYOHYANGSANGWAN.
The leading actor and actress are Ko Soo and Han Hyo-Joo. Jung Young-Doo, who has choreographed the dance in the film, also makes an appearance in the film.
Based on the real North Korean restaurant in Beijing, the story unfolds with the encounter of a South Korean painter and a North Korean waitress.
Operated by the North Korean government to earn foreign money, Myo-hyang-san-gwan is a place for North Korean cuisine as well as dance and musical performance by North Korean female. More than a restaurant for both North and South Koreans, the place becomes highly political site. As if a neutral ground in a foreign domain and a third party, the restaurant is the only place where ordinary people could meet in public without the constraints of both government.
In this setting, North and South Korean would encounter one another that ignite further curiosity and a sense of longing.
A group of college friends have gathered to celebrate the opening of “his” solo exhibit in Beijing. After the opening, the group roams about the streets of the city, eventually ending up at Myo-hyang-san-gwan. At the restaurant, they meet the mysterious North Korean beauty Oh Young-Ran and experience a set of dream-like incidents.
Set in an eccentric space that shows the particularities of a divided country, the film offers a look into a façade of life today in the midst of swirling changes via various perspectives on art and life.
MYOHYANGSANGWAN will be exhibited at the upcoming Fukuoka Triennale in September 2014.

문경원, 전준호가 연출하는 단편 영화 이 제작된다.
배우 한효주와 고수가 주연을 맡고 안무가 정영두가 극중 나오는 무용의 안무뿐 아니라 직접 연기도 한다.
중국 북경에 있는 북한식당 을 배경으로 식당을 찾은 남한 화가와 북한 접대원을 중심으로 이야기는 펼쳐진다.
북한 정부가 외화 벌이를 목적으로 운영하는 식당에서는 북한 음식을 접할 수 있을 뿐 아니라 북한 여성들이 직접 공연하는 춤과 노래도 관람 할 수 있다. 그러나 남과 북 양측 사람들에게 은 그저 식당일 수 만은 없는, 다른 의미의 정치적 공간이다. 타국의 영토에 마치 중립지대처럼, 제3지대처럼 문을 연 은 일반인들이 양쪽 정부의 통제 없이 공개적으로 만날 수 있는 유일한 곳 이기도 하다. 이 식당에서 남북한 사람들은 서로에 대한 호기심과 연민을 조심스럽게 확인한다.
북경에서 개인전을 여는 ‘그’를 축하하려고 오랜만에 미술대학 동창들이 모인다. 전시회 오프닝이 끝난 뒤 모처럼 학창시절로 돌아간 듯 설렘과 기쁨으로 북경시내를 돌아다니며 술자리를 가진다. 그리고 그들은 으로 향한다. 그곳에서 그들은 신비스럽고 아름다운 북한 여성 오영란을 만나 마치 꿈속 같은 이상한 일들을 경험한다.
이 영상은 분단국의 특수성이 실현된 공간에서 삶과 예술에 대한 다양한 시선에 기대어 흔들리는세계에 몸담은 현대인의 모습을 성찰적으로 보여준다. 묘향산관은 2014년 9월 후쿠오카 트리엔날레에서 전시 된다.
