The Busan Museum of Art, with invited international curator Till Fellrath, opens the exhibition ‘Staging Film: The Relation of Image and Space in Video Art.’ The ‘Staging Film’ exhibition is intended to raise interest and awareness of video art, in the city of Busan which hosts the annual Busan International Film Festival and is considered an asset to film and culture. The exhibition includes video artists like Anri Sala, Bill Viola, MOON Kyungwon & JEON Joonho, and the large variety of video work produced in the past two decades that spans the many concepts, experimentation, and different forms in video art. Each video piece in the expands on the definition, form and field of video art in the art landscape. The video artists included elements similar to film in their use of space in order to give viewers a sense of understanding of video art by bridging elements of movies and film. The twelve participating artists include work shown as large scale single channel videos, double screen, and multi-channel installations. Artists MOON Kyungwon and JEON Joonho’s piece is a double screen two channel installations in which the projections are displayed across from the other face to face.
스테이징 필름Staging Film, 부산시립미술관
부산시립미술관은 글로벌한 활동을 펼치고 있는 큐레이터 틸 펠라스를 기획자로 초대하여 “스테이징 필름 : 비디오 아트 속의 공간과 이미지”전을 개최한다. “스테이징 필름”전은 영화의 도시 부산이라는 명성과 국제적으로 가장 중요한 영화제로 인식되고 있는 부산국제영화제가 열리는 부산의 문화적 자산을 기반으로 ‘영상예술에 대한 인식의 한계’를 확장시키기 위해 기획된 전시이다. 이 전시에 참여하는 비디오 아트 작가들은, Anri Sala, Bill Viola, 문경원 & 전준호 등으로 지난 20여년 동안 다양한 개념적인 지점에서 또는 형태적인 면에서 영상 제작과 연출적 실험을 지속해온 작가들이다. 각각의 비디오 작품들은 비디오 아트의 내용과 형식을 통해 영상 예술의 영역을 확장해왔음을 보여준다. 비디오 아트 작가들은 ‘영화’를 둘러싼 공간적 요소들을 차용하거나 작품 자체를 이해시키기 위한 필수적인 부분으로 공간과 이미지를 변환시켜 독특한 자신만의 영상세계를 보여주고 있다.
12명의 작가가 참여하였으며 이들은 형식적으로 크게 싱글채널 비디오, 더블 스크린, 그리고 멀티채널의 설치 영상으로 구성되었고, 문경원과 전준호는 더블스크린 세션에 세상의 저편으로 참여하고 있다.
