English critic, writer, and curator Nicola Oxley and Nicolas de Oliveira were invited to Culture Station Seoul284 for a lecture performance.
This lecture explored the notion of space as an intersection of installations, writings, and sounds. Space, without intervention, remains abstract and ordinary; however, it transforms into a specific and particular place once it becomes something that receives reason. Hence, it becomes a place of production.
Nicola Oxley and Nicolas de Oliveira have been active over the past 30 years, running independent art spaces, organizing special exhibitions, and writing books on art. Their main interest is the materialistic nature of space and different actions within. Practices within certain space can be contacted and interconnected regardless of the distance between.
This all started from their exhibition A Book of Burning Matches: Collecting Installation Art Documents. This exhibition, which had been presented at the Thomas Olbricht Foundation in Berlin, Germany in 2015, emphasized the true sensation of the arts, and that the two sought to focus on reviving that. This sensation, according to Oxley and De Oliveria, is the sum total of experiential and sensible acts demonstrated via speech, fragments of work, recorded documents, or fiction produced by artists.

서울 문화역 284에서 영국의 비평가이자 저술가, 큐레이터인 니콜라 옥슬리(Nicola Oxley)와 니콜라스 디올리베이라(Nicolas de Oliveira)를 초청하여 그들의 강연 퍼포먼스가 열었다.
이 강연은 공간에 대한 고찰로 수많은 설치(installation)와 글, 소리(sound)가 교차하는 지점으로서 공간이라는 개념에 관한 것이다. 공간은 무언가가 개입하기 전까지는 여전히 추상적이고 평범하지만, 어떤 사유를 받아들이는 곳이 될 때 아주 특별하고 구체적인 장소로 변모하게 된다. 즉 공간은 무언가를 생산해 내는 곳이 된다.
니콜라 옥슬리(Nicola Oxley)와 니콜라스 디 올리베이라(Nicolas de Oliveira)는 지난 30년 동안 독립 미술 공간들을 운영하고 실험적인 기획 전시를 발표하며미술에 대한 책을 쓰는 등 다양한 활동을 해왔다. 그들의 작업에서 주된 관심사는 공간의 물질성과 그 안에서 서로 다른 행위들이 교차하는 데에 있다. 공간에서무언가가 실행되는 것을 생각해 볼 때 설령 그것들이가까이 있지 않더라도 모든 것들은 서로 연결되고 접촉이 가능하게 된다.
이번 이야기는 그들의 전시 에서 시작되었다. 2015년 베를린의 토마스 올브리치 파운데이션(Thomas Olbricht Foundation)에서 열린 이전시에서는 예술에 대한 진정한 센세이션과, 그것을다시 불러일으키는 것에 대해 그들이 전념할 것을 강조하였다. 그들이 말한 센세이션이란 예술가의 입을통해, 작업의 파편들을 통해, 기록된 문서 혹은 픽션 등을 통해 발화되는 경험적이고 감각적인 것들의 총체이다.
