Imaginary Asia, a special exhibition co-curated by the Nam Jun Paik Art Center and Seo Hyun-Ssuk, will be held in the exhibition hall on the second floor from March 9 to June 11, 2017.
This exhibition was organized with aim of examining the history of Asia not just from the Western globalization point of view but from various dimensions through historical experiences such as the lack of independent modernization of 20th century Asia, clash of ideologies, and unbalanced globalization.
This exhibition also seeks to reveal the method behind independent accumulative history writing through the art medium of video, together with more than 20 artists, from both Korea and abroad, who interpret Asian social experiences in their own way.
Works presented in the exhibition explore the expandability of video art in the 21st century; blur the boundary between real and surreal; and moreover examine various questions on expansive media known as contemporary moving images such as the convergence of diverse video genres and the deconstruction of the boundary between public and private thought.
In this exhibition, Moon Kyungwon and Jeon Joonhointroduce a newly edited version of Myohyangsangwan, a work produced in 2014 depicting a dream-like tale that happens at t a restaurant located in Beijing, China but operated by the North Korean government.

백남준 아트센터와 외부 기획자 서현석이 공동 기획한 전시가 2017년 3월 9일부터 6월 11일까지 백남준아트센터 2층 전시실에서 열린다.
이번 전시는 20세기 아시아의 해방적 근대화의 결여와이데올로기의 충돌, 불균형적 세계화의 역사적 경험의 공유를 바탕으로 아시아 역사를 서구의 세계화 시점에 국한되지 않고 보다 다차원적이고 유기적인 층위들로써 고찰해 보는 것으로 기획되었다.
아시아의 사회적 경험을 자기만의 주체적 방식으로 해석하는 국내외 작가 20여명과 함께 동시대 미술에서 새롭게 제안되는 자기체화적 역사쓰기의 방식을 비디오라는 예술매체를 통하여 드러내려한다.
전시에서 선보이는 작품들은 21세기 비디오 아트의 확장성을 연구하고, 사실과 허구의 경계를 교란하는 한편, 사적 사유와 공적 사유의 경계 해체 그리고 다양한 영상 장르의 융합 등 동시대 무빙이미지라는 확장적인 매체에 대한 다양한 질문들을 탐구한다.
이 전시에 문경원, 전준호는 중국 북경에 위치한 북한정부에서 운영하는 식당에서 벌어지는 하룻밤 꿈과 같은 이야기를 다룬 을 소개한다. 2014년 만들어진 이 작품은 이번 전시를 계기로 다시 촬영을하고 사운드도 새롭게 만들어 재편집한 을 소개한다.
