CHOE Jae Chun

CHOE Jae Chun received his Ph.D. in evolutionary biology from Harvard University. Before returning to Korea in 1994, he worked at Harvard University as a full-time lecturer, the University of Michigan as an assistant professor, and was a Junior Fellow at the Michigan Society of Fellows. Between 1994 and 2006 he was a professor of biological sciences at Seoul National University. In 2006 he moved to Ewha Womans University and was named a University Chair Professor, establishing a new graduate program in EcoScience, while also serving as the Director of the university’s Natural History Museum. His research addresses the questions of behavior, ecology, and cognitive evolution. In addition to publishing scientific papers and books, he is a well-known popularizer of science in Korea and has written more than 50 books. He is also the founder and leader of the Consilience Academy, where people from different disciplines try to work together towards common goals.


최재천

최재천은 하버드대학에서 진화생물학으로 박사 학위를 받았다. 1994년 귀국하기 전까지 그는 하버드대학 전임강사와 미시건대학 조교수 및 미시건명예교우회의 펠로우를 역임했다. 1994년부터 2006년까지 서울대학교 생명과학부 교수를 지냈고 2006년부터는 이화여자대학교에서 에코과학부를 신설하고 석좌교수와 자연사박물관장으로 일하고 있다. 그는 행동, 생태, 그리고 진화를 연구하는 학자이다. 과학 논문과 저서 외에도 대중과 소통을 위해 40권 이상의 책을 집필했다. 다양한 분야의 전문가들이 한데 모여 학문을 논하는 모임인 통섭원(統攝苑)을 설립하여 운영하고 있다.
